A wench lowering an aluminum bench broke at a metals plant. The bench fell into an ~8000 gallon open vat of sodium hydroxide solution, and the bench became fully submerged and the aluminum reacted with the sodium hydroxide solution producing Hydrogen (H2) gas which ignited. The bench continued to react with the solution continuing to produce Hydrogen (H2) gas which burned. Once the product level in the tank was lowered, and then the tank was refilled with waDec 30, 2019
