A wench lowering an aluminum bench broke at a metals plant. The bench fell into an ~8000 gallon open vat of sodium hydroxide solution, and the bench became fully submerged and the aluminum reacted with the sodium hydroxide solution producing Hydrogen (H2) gas which ignited.
